The thriving, government-funded, multimillion-rand Ncera Macadamia Farm (NMF) yesterday celebrated another milestone as they harvested 80 tons of macadamia nuts for export.
This comes just a month after residents went on a rampage burning sheds and damaging the farm’s irrigation system, causing damage of around R600000.
The project’s first harvest was in 2013, when just 8.7 tons of nuts were harvested. The farm has made more than R11.6-million between 2013 and 2016. The state has invested R100-million into the project.
Deputy Minister of Mineral Resources Godfrey Oliphant who attended the event with more than 300 people yesterday, said the project was already making a mark in the global village.
