Two rival taxi associations, Mdantsane East London Taxi Association (Melta) and East London and District Taxi Association (Meta), clashed in the early hours of yesterday morning amid ongoing taxi violence gripping parts of the province.
The confrontation, which took place at the Mdantsane taxi rank, started on Thursday afternoon and continued until yesterday morning.
According to Melta spokesman Welile Blayi, Meta taxi members went to the Mdantsane Highway taxi rank at 3pm on Thursday, arriving in huge numbers, and forced all Melta taxis out of the rank.
