All the Walter Sisulu University campuses in the Buffalo City remained closed this morning. Students boycotted classes yesterday over the 8% fee increment that was announced by the university vice-chancellor on Friday.

Speaking on behalf of the students yesterday, Zolile Zamisa said they will only return to classes on the day the vice-chancellor pronounces a zero percent fee increment.

Last night one student was arrested and is expected to appear before the East London Magistrate’s Court soon.

Police used rubber bullets and teargas to disperse hundreds of students that blockaded roads with burning tryes in Southernwood on Tuesday night.
