Government used taxpayers money to pay a whopping R185 000 towards the funeral for musician Mandoza‚ reported Sunday World.

The newspaper reported that despite offers for some of the services to be provided for free‚ government still forked out the cash.

Not only did government bankroll the funeral‚ Sunday World claims that some of the services were paid for twice‚ including a sound system.

The cash injection‚ which was authorised despite Mandoza’s family insisting that they did not want charity from anyone‚ has left some local musicians fuming. They say government wasted money‚ especially considering some of the services were offered for free.

Government has said that there was nothing untoward with the donation‚ explaining that it is not unusual to make contributions towards funeral costs.
