Wanted fraud suspect finally nabbed

Hawks have finally arrested one of its most wanted suspects Sonwabile Mthongana, 36, for fraud he committed in 2012 after he forged an East London judge's signature in a fake court order instructing a medical aid scheme to pay out a large sum to his family.

Mthongana was arrested by the Eastern Cape commercial crime wing of the Hawks in Johannesburg on Thursday and appeared at that city's Specialised Commercial Crimes court on Friday.

Hawks spokeswoman Anelisa Feni said the case, which has been transferred to the East LondonMagistrate’s Court, was postponed for formal bail application.   “The case was postponed for this coming Friday at the East London Magistrate’s Court. It was transferred to East London because the crime happened there.”

Feni could not disclose the amount which was paid out to the family by the medical aid scheme. She also could not give the name of the medical aid scheme or the name of the judge.
