Foreign nationals burnt to death inside shop

Two Ethiopian nationals working as shopkeepers in a village outside King William's Town were found burnt to death inside their shop on Sunday night.

The men were attacked by a group of about seven men who entered the shop located at Amagxethu location in Punzana. They tied two victims and set the shop alight.

Police spokeswoman Captain Siphokazi Mawisa said the suspects fled the scene with goods from the shop.

"Five suspects linked to the murder of two foreign nationals in Punzana were arrested on Tuesday," Mawisa said.

"Police also recovered goods which were allegedly stolen and these were hidden in the bushes and were pointed out by the suspects." She said the five suspects aged between ages of 19 and 30 were from the same village and will appear in the Zwelitsha Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.

"The King William’s Town Cluster Commander, Brigadier Luntu Ngubelanga visited the crime scene to address the Gxethu and Ethiopian communities on the matter where he strongly condemned the senseless killings. He assured the community that police will argue for bail to be denied. He also thanked the community for sharing the information which led to the arrest of the suspect. He further encouraged the community members to work with the police by reporting the criminals and criminal activities to the police on Crime Stop 08600 10111, Crime Line 32211 or the nearest police station," Mawisa said.
