ANC secretary faces assault charges

Western Cape African National Congress (ANC) secretary Faize Jacobs made a brief appearance at the Cape Town Magistrate Court on Wednesday in connection with allegedly assaulting a former colleague.

The matter was postponed for February 22‚ when Jacobs is expected to be asked to plead on assault charges.

Jacobs allegedly assaulted former ANC staffer Wesley Seale late last year for failing to write a report.

Seale has since left his job and is now a lecturer at Rhodes University in the Eastern Cape.

Shortly after the assault case‚ Jacobs was suspended from the party and faced a disciplinary hearing in which he was found guilty.

The party suspended him for 18 months but that suspension was suspended for three years.
