Tens of thousands affected as storm downs electricity in former Transkei region

An estimated 30‚000 people were without electricity this morning after a bad storm knocked out the power supply in the Eastern Cape’s former Transkei region‚ but Eskom did manage to restore electricity to tens of thousands more residents.

“Over 30‚000 customers are still without supply in the Eastern Cape after a bad storm last night‚” Eskom said on Thursday.

“Techs restored supply to over 65‚000 and work continues this morning at Idutywa‚ Mqanduli‚ Mthatha‚ Elliotdale‚ Ngqeleni & surrounding areas.”
