Selected Buffalo City vendors will soon be able to trade right inside the Buffalo City Stadium during Premier Soccer League (PSL) soccer games.

BCM spokesman Thandy Matebese said since PSL team Chippa United had moved some of their fixtures to the stadium, the metro’s local economic development department had decided to invite vendors to sell inside the stadium as large numbers of football fans attend the games.

BCM’s business development manager, Xolelwa Majiza, said 10 vendors would be selected per game and the selection would be on a “first come first serve” basis.

“The selection process will be done through the business support centres and the number of vendors needed will be divided according to the areas,” she said.

Majiza said those who submitted their names and were not selected would be considered for the following matches.

“Vendors need to understand that there are no guarantees that one will secure a space as the number is limited,” she said.

Matebese said the metro would supply the vendors with gazebos that they would have to return after use.

“We want the traders to look professional,” he said, adding that shelter was one of the requirements from the metro’s environmental health department.

“We will also help them comply with the requirements of the trading unit by facilitating workshops for them so that they can receive their health certificates before the game,” said Matebese.

“I just hope they are fair in their selection and give equal opportunity by rotating the names,” said Nomvuyo Mabandla, who sells cooked meals in areas such as Buffalo Street taxi rank.

Vendors who are interested can submit their names at their nearest BCM business centre. There are matches this weekend.
