Oh!Brighado! gets a lifeline for now

In two 11th-hour payments and an urgent court application, Oh!Brighado has managed to get their doors open for payday weekend.

Yesterday afternoon moved an urgent application to have the keys to open the upmarket East London champagne bar after it was locked because they owed R108 000 in rent.

At 4pm yesterday Oh!Brighado director Olwethu Hoyana was at the East London High Court with his legal team. Advocate Sakhele Poswa appeared for him while advocate Dumisani Skoti appeared for Slip Knot Investments 777 (PTY) Ltd, the landlord at Beacon Bay Crossing.

On Tuesday, Slip Knot Investments went to court asking that items belonging to Oh!Brighado be attached because of the failure to pay rent. The court ruled in their favour.

Yesterday, Oh!Brighado received a slight victory of their own when judge Selby Mbenenge ordered they be allowed to open, pending part B of the application.

“ is directed to do all things necessary to restore possession of the property,” Mbenenge said in part of the order.

Part B of the case is an eviction application by Slip Knot Investments. The matter will return to court on October 25. — Siya Boya
