Roads and Public Works MEC Thandiswa Marawu this morning commemorated Disability Rights Awareness Month by handing out wheelchairs and crutches to 49 people with disabilities in Barkley East.
The aim of the campaign is to increase awareness about the rights of persons with disabilities as equal citizens.
The campaign also seeks to accelerate equal access to socioeconomic opportunities for persons with disabilities by making information available and accessible.
The MEC said persons with disabilities must be able to fulfill their roles in society and participate on an equal basis with others. It is important that we focus on the ability and not on the disability of an individual.
