Zuma called to order after backing errant Lungisa

President Jacob Zuma has been called to order by the ANC’s leadership after he publicly supported Andile Lungisa as the party’s chairperson in Nelson Mandela Bay‚ the Mail & Guardian reported on Friday.

ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe told the newspaper that the party’s top six officials had this week decided that Lungisa should be stripped of the regional chairperson post.

Mantashe said the ANC’s constitution did not allow members to serve on lower structures. Lungisa also serves as a member of the ANC’s provincial executive committee.

Last Sunday Zuma attended the regional conference in Port Elizabeth‚ where he threw his weight behind Lungisa’s election‚ saying that the ancestors supported his election.
