A teen victim of an arranged marriage almost died for her freedom. The Mthatha girl, 18, whose identity is being protected, was married off to a 35-year-old.

After being forced to marry the man she escaped but was sent back by her parents. In despair, she tried to kill herself.

The young woman was addressing Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini, social development MEC Nancy Sihlwayi and other dignitaries at the end of Child Protection Week in Lusikisiki on Sunday.
