Constable Khanyiswa Xezu had to abandon her police duties for a moment and help a woman who was in labour at Mlungisi Police station.

Xezu, 33, said she never thought in her life that she will be helping a woman give birth to a healthy boy.

“The woman came to ask the police to call an ambulance. While we were attending to the matter, I noticed that she was in pain,” she said.

“I noticed that the head of the child was already coming out.  I then told all men to go out of the station and I helped her deliver the baby,” she said.

Mlungisi police station commander Colonel Gcinikaya Taleni said what Xezu did is a true reflection of the police services mission and vision which is to serve and protect the community.

Thembakazi Ntsuku thanked the police for saving her baby.
