Man sought after missing girl found

Cecilia Ngwenya, who went missing two weeks ago, was found in Sophumelela township, Keiskammahoek, recently.

She allegedly received a lift from her cousin’s boyfriend while coming from Richard Varha High School in Dimbabza on November 16, and was then taken, apparently without her consent, to Sophumelela where she was locked up for two weeks.

Her father, Joseph Ngwenya, said they received a tip-off from an unknown man who said he saw a “young lady” in a backroom flat that belonged to two suspicious men in Sophumelela, shortly after seeing an article of a missing person in the Daily Dispatch.

“He said he had information about our missing daughter and led us to a house in Keiskammahoek. We followed up on the same day and found her.”

The girl was found last Thursday.

Ngwenya said that the alleged kidnapper was his niece’s boyfriend who lived in Dimbaza.

“I am happy that she is back and alive. When we ask her questions, she cries. She is seeing a trauma counsellor in Keiskammahoek.

“I want to know what happened. I still have a grudge against the guy because I don’t know why he did this to my daughter,” the father said.

The Grade 11 pupil was still wearing her school uniform when she was found.

Ngwenya was accompanied by the police when they raided the premises where his daughter was held and a suspect arrested on charges of kidnapping.

Police spokeswoman Siphokazi Mawisa said it was alleged that the vehicle that picked Cecilia up drove on the R63 towards Alice. She said there was a gap in the girl’s memory but she remembered waking up in a bed in a strange area.

She said a man had been arrested and released on Friday.

“Our preliminary investigation led to the release of the suspect.” Another man known only as “Gerald” was being sought by police.

“Police are appealing to the community to assist in finding Gerald. Please contact Warrant Officer Mbango or Warrant Officer Mchithakali on 040-656-4300.” — zikhonam@dispatch.co.za
