Rugby legend Joost van der Westhuizen’s son Jordan was left speechless when his favourite English football club‚ Liverpool‚ gave him with an official jersey signed by the team.
His mother‚ television personality Amor Vittone‚ shared pictures of an excited Jordan showing off his signed Liverpool jersey on her Facebook page. The jersey was accompanied by a certificate of authenticity and a heartfelt letter from team’s manager Jurgen Klopp.
“What a HUGE surprise Jordan received today! A signed Liverpool jersey by the players with the authenticity card Liverpool FC — Liverpool Echo and .......a personalised letter‚ written to Jordan from Jurgen Klopp! He is speechless and I have goose bumps...” Vittone’s post stated.
It was 13-year-old Jordan’s own touching letter to his late father — which went viral globally — that moved Jurgen and his team and prompted the generous gesture.
Van der Westhuizen died earlier this year after succumbing to a public battle with Motor Neuron Disease at age 45.
In his letter to his father — which was published by British newspapers following his passing on — Jordan wrote: “Dear Daddy. Thank you for everything but most of all ’be the best that you can be’. You are the best rugby player in the world! I want to be the best sportsman like you‚ because you said I must work hard! I will always love you to the moon and back.
“Daddy please tell God that Liverpool must win. You will never walk alone. I love you so much.”
Klopp offered his condolences to Jordan and his family.
“We know that your Daddy was a huge fan of Liverpool FC and we’re so pleased that he shared his passion with you. The letter you wrote to him about LFC meant a lot to us ... we hope you will have happy memories of the time you spent with him watching LFC play.
“You’ll never walk alone‚” Klopp wrote in his letter.
