A job-seeker in Randfontein‚ west of Johannesburg‚ sustained burn wounds to her head and face on Monday after dousing herself with petrol that she had bought at a nearby service station‚ and set alight with a flick of a lighter.
CCTV footage shows the woman pouring approximately two litres of petrol over herself and rubbing it into her hair and face‚ the Randfontein Herald(http://randfonteinherald.co.za/251920/breaking-woman-sets-alight-public/) reports.She then took out a lighter and set herself alight.
ER24‚ who arrived to assist her just after 4pm‚ said in a separate statement that its paramedics assessed the woman and found that she had sustained burn wounds to her head and face.
She was in a critical condition‚ the emergency service said.
She was treated for her injuries and provided with pain-relief medication before she was transported to Leratong Provincial Hospital for further care‚ ER24 added.
The Randfontein Herald quoted William Caldeira‚ a liquor store manager‚ as saying that the woman had asked about jobs in the Randgate area throughout the day‚ before the incident.
The local newspaper also quoted a family member as saying the woman has been struggling with psychological problems for the past nine years.
