Robbers Hit Fresh Produce Market

The Eastern Cape police are looking for five armed men in connection with a crack of dawn robbery at the Buffalo City Municipality's Fresh Produce Market in Wilsonia where a customer lost R30 000 of his cash float.

The robbery took place at 5.50 this morning when Yan Ming Yan,41, was waiting at a loading zone before the market open at 6am.

Yan, a Peddie fresh produce store owner, said the five men told him that they just wanted money.

“ One of them was wearing a mask so I couldn't see his face. They also took my belt and jacket.”

According to Jan,tshe robbers also made off with three cases of Oros and cartons of cigarettes.

They allegedly fled on foot into the thicket of the vast industrial area. Yan said the money was meant to purchase stock for his popular Peddie store. Customers and workers of the market told the Dispatch that they were under-siege from criminals who target the market.

Mdantsane police spokesman Nkosikho Mzuku said he was awaiting for details of the incident from the station commander of Scenery Park Police station
