Two rob cash-in-transit truck of unconfirmed amount

A G4S guard was robbed while collecting money from Superspar at around 10.30am this morning. It is unconfirmed how much money was taken  but witnesses indicated the value to be near R60 000.

An unnamed MultiSecurity reaction officer said he had seen the CCTV footage and witnessed what he saw as two guys casually walking around in the mall. As soon as the G4S guard left the store the two robbers confronted him with guns and made off with the money.

Panther Farm Security and MultiSecurity quickly recovered the “escape car”, a silver Corsa bakkie on the Southwell (farm) Road. The vehicle was discovered about 200-metres up the road, out of sight and had been stripped of its number plates.

A Hi-Tech security guard at the mall confirmed that he had seen the two men “window shop” and that the G4S vehicle was parked in the service delivery area.

More bystanders told that they saw two men running out the mall and speed off with the bakkie that had been parked at the front entrance near the pedestrian crossing.

SAPS spokesperson, Captain Mali Govender confirmed that G4Security had collected the black shock trolley filled with money from the store.

“While attempting to leave the mall and still inside, he was approached by the two unknown males. “One of them pointed at him with a firearm and grabbed the shock trolley which contained an undisclosed amount of cash.

The suspects left the mall and got into a silver Corsa utility bakkie, registration number HSS 136 EC. During patrols of the area, the vehicle was found abandoned on the gravel road approximately 5km from the scene,” Govender said.

Govender said that no arrests have been made but that a case of armed robbery is being investigated. SAPS have confirmed the vehicle is being sought in a case in Motherwell, Port Elizabeth in August this year.
