Local Heroes honoured tomorrow at awards evening

Community stalwarts driven by the passion to change lives will be celebrated at the third Daily Dispatch and Johnson & Johnson Local Heroes Awards tomorrow evening.

The annual awards, which take place at The Venue@Hemingways, will be celebrating this year’s top nominees selected as the most inspirational heroes.

The top 12 were chosen from more than 50 nominations for the astounding work they do and will be named in the Daily Dispatch on Friday.

The heroes will be treated to a day of pampering before being ushered to The Venue for an evening of glamour, where they will enjoy a buffet dinner and be rewarded for their hard work.

Daily Dispatch acting marketing manager Penelope Smith said: “We are thrilled to be hosting the third annual Daily Dispatch and Johnson & Johnson Local Heroes Awards.

“This year, we have a lineup of amazing finalists who are changing so many lives in our community.

“None of this would be possible without our incredible sponsors.

“We’d especially like to thank our co-naming sponsor for their continued support, as well as our associate sponsor KFC Add Hope.”

Through the Add Hope campaign, public affairs director for Africa Thabisa Mkhwanazi said KFC hopes to bring about change.

“Statistics SA shows 51% of people are living in poverty, most of whom are children and African.

“Malnutrition is rife and this has a lifelong impact on physical, mental and social development. We need to do everything we can to turn the tide.

“As KFC, we continue to increase our own CSI contributions. We also really appreciate every customer donation as these donations enable Add Hope to keep increasing the amount of people we reach.”

CSI leader for Johnson & Johnson East London Michelle Pretorius said: “Once again we have been so inspired with the amount of people who have been featured in this year's Local Heroes campaign.

“We are looking forward to our third event tomorrow and would like to congratulate every person who has made a difference in our community.

“We continue to challenge each and every person to get involved and be the change, be a local hero.”

lTickets are still available from Daily Dispatch at R500 per person and R4800 per table of 10. — nonsindisoq@dispatch.co.za
