Premier Phumulo Masualle says they are happy that the much-awaited public protector's report into the Mandela funeral spending has been released.

"We have been waiting for it since 2014," Masualle told reporters on the sidelines of the 4th anniversary celebrations of the passing away of the revered statesman which were held at the Nelson Mandela Museum in Mthatha.

He said they would now look into the report and scrutinise it and quickly come back to the public with remedial actions.

The Daily Dispatch has reported that the report released on Monday afternoon had implicated senior Eastern Cape officials into the misuse of millions of rands earmarked for the funeral arrangements of Mandela.

It further stated that Busisiwe Mkhwebane now wanted President Jacob Zuma to make a proclamation that the Special Investigating Unit - the Hawks - investigate all those implicated and charge them so that taxpayers' money can be recovered.
