An additional 180 pupils have today been rushed to St Barnabas Hospital following a food poisoning spell that hit Ndamase Senior Secondary School in Ngqeleni.

This brings the total  number of pupils affected by the food poisoning to 430.

Last night,  250 pupils from the same school were rushed to hospital.

Provincial health spokesman Sizwe Kupelo said the children, who all live in the school’s hostel, had been given viennas to eat when the problem started.

Some of the 250 pupils were taken to the Nelson Mandela Academic Hospital in Mthatha.

The department of education said they have  instructed the service provider responsible for providing food for the hostel pupils to stop feeding them the food until an investigation has been conducted.
