ANC Youth League in late bid to oppose court application

The African National Congress Youth League this morning showed up in a last-minute bid to oppose a high court application to set aside its 2016 decision to dissolve the provincial executive committee of the Eastern Cape ANC Youth League.

The disbanded Eastern Cape ANCYL PEC and its secretary-general Butsha Lali brought the application to set aside the 2016 decision which it described as being that of either the ANC National Executive Committee, the ANC National Working Committee or that of ANCYL president Collen Maine.

The matter was to be heard on the unopposed motion court roll in the Grahamstown High Court this morning. However, it was indicated to Judge John Smith that the ANCYL intended opposing the matter.

The matter stood down and the issue of a postponement is likely to be argued this afternoon. It is understood that the ANCYL will seek condonation from the court for the late filing of an answering affidavit by its general secretary Njabulo Nzuzu.
