UFH forgery trial of businessman delayed

The forgery trial of Wandisile Mti, who is accused of faking University of Fort Hare vice-chancellor Professor Sakhela Buhlungu’s signature to secure R9.5-million bank loan, was on Friday postponed to June 18.

He briefly appeared at the Mthatha Magistrate’s Court where the matter was postponed and moved to the Mthatha Regional Court in June.

In February Mti was granted R10 000 bail, after handing himself over to the Hawks earlier in the day.

Reports indicated earlier that the businessman allegedly signed a lease agreement on November 17 with UFH to accommodate students at his block of flats in East London.

The case was postponed to June 18 to allow for further investigations and for a trial date to be set.
