Security guards at police garages and impoundment lots across the province are crying foul over lack of protective gear, which they say they need to perform their duties.

They say they have neither guns nor batons, and are yet to receive certificates for training they attended back in 2012.

A security guard, who asked not to be named for fear of victimisation, told the Daily Dispatch that some security guards had worked as reservists for over a decade before being absorbed by the South African Police Service (SAPS) in 2012 and others in 2015.
