Mthatha Stadium turned into a place of worship as hundreds of music lovers ushered in the new year in worship with some of the biggest names in the gospel industry.
In East London, believers packed the Orient Theatre to listen to Veliswa Skeyi and Lusanda Mcinga at the Sinqobile Music Festival.
In Mthatha, Sipho Makhabane, Sipho Ngwenya and Thina Zungu were among the performers.
Singer Makhabane, who organised the Mthatha show, said “although we didn’t get the numbers we aimed for”, he was happy with the turn up.
“This is the beginning. This is going to be an annual event. When people of Mthatha and its surrounding areas buy the idea we will have a full stadium,” he said.
“We all prayed that God gives us strength to face whatever challenge that will come our way this year,” he said.
Artists rendered a splendid performance in front of a vibrant and appreciative audience. Bethusile Mcinga who was the first to take to the stage left his fans asking for more.
He sang his popular songs such as Nyange lemihla, Zundithwale and Mandithwale
Another fascinating act was the duet of Sipho Ngwenya and Thina Zungu. They blessed the audience with UJesu ufik’ekuseni, a song which became a national anthem just a few months after its release.
East London singing couple Butho and and Yolanda Vuthela also did not disappoint.
Those in attendance at the Orient Theatre were blessed with the sounds of the legendary Mcinga, former Lord Comforters lead singer Veliswa Skeyi, Bethusile Mcinga, Yolanda and Butho Vuthela, Dumi Mkokstad – and other local artists. Among those who attended the event was sports, recreation, arts and culture MEC Pemmy Majodina.
