Train collision in Germiston

Several people were injured after two trains collided in Germiston on Tuesday morning‚ said Metrorail spokesperson Lillian Mofokeng.

“I can just confirm that we did have an accident between two trains. The trains were both travelling to Springs in the same direction when one hit the other one at the back‚” said Mofokeng.

“We do have some injuries but we cannot quantify these at the moment‚” she added.

The cause of the accident was not yet clear.

This incident comes less than a week after 19 people were killed a train crash in Kroonstad. The train was travelling from Port Elizabeth to Johannesburg when it collided with an articulated tipper truck causing several carriages to derail.
