A Komani Hospital nurse was found hanging from a ceiling in his room at the nurses' home in Komani Hospital on Monday morning.
Xolani Fongoqha, 51, a father of two boys was found hanging in his room by his colleagues.
Police spokeswoman Captain Namhla Mdleleni said the Komani police have opened an inquest docket, after the death of the nurse.
“It is alleged that a 51-year-old man was found hanging in his room and according to the information, no foul play was suspected,” he said.
Mdleleni said the motive is not yet known. National Health Education and Allied Workers Union (Nehawu) representative Phumla Mabhanga as the union they are still shocked by the incident.
“We send our condolences to the family,” she said.
Health department spokesman Sizwe Kupelo has not commented on the matter.
