KwaBhaca men sentenced for rape, murder

A KwaBhaca man who assaulted and raped an elderly woman in his village three years and another who shoved a stick inside his girlfriend's private parts, were both sentenced by the KwaBhaca Regional Court.

Police spokeswoman Captain Edith Mjoko said 23-year-old Ayanda Ngwaqa was on Wednesday sentenced to 15 years for rape, two years each for housebreaking, kidnapping and assault GBH counts and five years for robbery.

He was arrested three years ago after breaking down the door to a 64-year-old neighbour's house before he assaulted her and stole her R500. He then dragged her to a nearby bush and raped her.

"The rape, kidnapping, housebreaking and assault GBH sentences were ordered to run concurrently," said Mjoko.

Meanwhile, 38-year-old Mzwamandla Mvango was sentenced to five years for attempted murder.

Mjoko said he was arrested last year for shoving a stick inside her girlfriend's private parts after accusing her of going to a friend's party to look for potential suitors.
