Unfilled posts a burden for staff

There are more than 7 000 vacancies in the Eastern Cape department of health that have not been filled, which negatively impacts on the state’s ability to deliver efficient services.

The alarming vacancy rate in critical posts includes those of doctors, nurses and pharmacists.

This was revealed by health MEC Dr Phumza Dyantyi in a report to the Bhisho legislature, where she said that there were 7 118 vacancies, including close to 3 000 nursing posts and over 250 pharmacist posts.
