Residents of Mdantsane’s Unit 3 are crying foul after damage allegedly caused by Buffalo City Metro construction workers in front of their houses left them without electricity for three weeks.

One of the residents, Nocwaka Bavuma, said they had reported the matter to the municipality on numerous occasions.

“They were upgrading the road in order to tar it and the power cables underground were damaged in that process.”

She said when they queried that, municipal officials told them to be patient as they did not have the budget to fix the problem.

The metro couldn't comment on Tuesday when contacted by DispatchLIVE, but said on Wednesday that the matter had been attended to and power was back on.

BCM spokeswoman Bathandwa Diamond said: “The city can confirm that a roads construction contractor did hit and damage a number of cables which were repaired but due to the number of cables damaged, additional cables were needed and the order took up to three weeks for the cables to be delivered.”
