Traffic authorities have warned motorists to drive with extra caution on the wet roads in the city due to rainy weather after an Isuzu bakkie overturned with four schoolchildren near Crewe Primary School in Amalinda this morning.

The bakkie was carrying two adults and four pupils when it lost control on a sharp curve and veered off the road, rolled and landed upside down.

Eastern Cape department of transport spokeswoman Khuselwa Rantjie said the incident happened at 7am at the busy Amalinda Main Road. Rantjie said: “Preliminary reports suggests that the wet weather might have contributed to the crash.”

“We would like to request motorists to drive with extra care as it is raining in most parts of the province and our roads may be wet and slippery,” Rantjie added.

Rantjie said no serious injuries were sustained and that all six occupants of the vehicle were treated for shock.
