R4bn to revamp Eastern Cape health facilities

The Eastern Cape department of health has announced it will spend R4-billion in the next three years on the refurbishment of provincial hospitals and clinics.

Spokesman Sizwe Kupelo said yesterday the department’s infrastructure and maintenance programme was a strategic function to address legacy backlogs.

He said the programme was also designed to deal with many years of poor infrastructure maintenance at the provincial health facilities.

“The provincial government’s medium term expenditure framework (MTEF) budget to address backlogs and refurbishment stands at over R4-billion for the 2018-19 to 2020-21 period,” Kupelo said.
