Holomisa to celebrate marriage in ceremony

The normally quiet town of Mqanduli is set to become a hive of activity this weekend when Chief Phathekile Holomisa and his wife Nosimanye Holomisa solemnise their marriage.

Holomisa, 56, is the Deputy Minister of Labour. The ceremony will take place at his Lower Ngqungqu Great Place on Saturday.

The 30-year-old Nosimanye, whose maiden name is Namhla Kondile, is originally from Centane.

Various guests including government leaders, politicians, members of the clergy, kings and queens and other traditional leaders, judges and lawyers and local residents are expected to attend.

Yesterday Holomisa and his cousin, UDM president Bantu Holomisa, were co-chairing an AmaHegebe royal family preparatory committee tasked with sorting out the final touches and finalising the programme of the day.

The UDM leader was not able to attend a party rally in Mqanduli as he was busy with the preparations.

When the Dispatch visited the great place yesterday workers were seen erecting a massive tent on a soccer field.

Holomisa married his first wife Bukelwa, a Thembu princess and one of the daughters of former Transkei homeland president KD Matanzima, in 1995. The couple divorced in 2015.

The couple do not regard Saturday as a wedding, but as an event where they will solemnise their marriage.

“Our traditional wedding was on January 2013 where we conducted the ritual of ukutyisa utsiki introducing her to the ancestry. Our civil marriage was on 23 June 2014 at Mthatha’s Home Affairs,” he said.

The ceremony will start on Friday at the bride’s home in Theko Fihla in Centane where there will be a traditional exchange of gifts between the two families.

Hundreds of litres of umqombothi have been brewed and cattle and sheep will be slaughtered on Friday. — lulamilef@dispatch.co.za
