Amateur boxing star Azinga “Loma” Fuzile will be among the young fighters who will showcase their talent in two development tournaments in Mdantsane and Ndevana this weekend.

Fuzile, who has had only one professional fight so far but looks ready to take on the big boys of the featherweight division, will come up against Tumelo Pedi from Johannesburg at the Mdantsane Indoor Centre this evening.

The show presented by KK/Wajima Promotions will feature other exciting bouts such as the clash between ex-con Khanyisa Sirhwayi and Athi Dumezweni in a junior bantamweight scrap.

This bout will likely steal the show given the talents of both combatants.

Dumezweni is still smarting from the unfair decision he received against Thembelani Maphuma when they were fighting for the provincial title last September.

The youngster fought his heart out and could have easily escaped with a draw.

Now he is eager to return to winning ways but he could not have chosen a more difficult opponent in Sirhwayi who is also in a race against time to make up for the period he spent in prison.

The Dowie Mzini-trained boxer is already 28 years old and has had just four fights with a loss his trainer insists was a robbery in Cape Town.

Blessed with pose, power and precision, Sirhwayi is composed even under attack.

On the other hand Dumezweni who is trained by his father Mthetho – a former SA Amateur boxing team coach – is a whirlwind left handed puncher who doesn’t shy away from mixing it up.

But the spotlight will be on Fuzile to continue the brilliant form he showed when he easily beat a 17-fight veteran Sibusiso Khumalo two months ago.

While he has time on his side, Fuzile could easily take on reigning SA champion Oscar Chauke right now but he will need to prove that he is above the level of opponents like Pedi.

The show, match-made by Luyanda “Lee” Kana, will also see a potentially thrilling mini-flyweight battle between Iviwe Ngema and Thandolwethu Hlangani.

As if the action will not be enough, Champion Boxing Promotions will present their own show at Ndevana, topped by the vacant EC flyweight title tussle between Xolani Radi and Yanga Daniso at Ndevana Hall tomorrow.

Daniso is fresh from what was considered a robbery against Morris Lento when they disputed the title three months ago.

Lento who came short in SA flyweight title challenges, fought to a draw against Lwandile Sityatha before finally being blown away in five one-sided rounds by Makazole Tete who has moved up to the bantamweight division, leaving the provincial title vacant.

Daniso will have an opportunity to finally pick up the crown against an average Radi.

Both tournaments are funded by the provincial department of sports, recreation, arts and culture.
