While Nehawu members were supposed to be preparing for the state of the province address (Sopa) in the provincial legislature, they decided to down tools today.
The union decided to activate its strike when it did not find joy from the legislature speaker Noxolo Kiviet following grievances submitted earlier in the year.
The members disrupted a protocol meeting meant to prepare for the Sopa, which is expected to be attended by hordes of dignitaries.
Nehawu chairman in the legislature Madoda Nkwali said the union members were not happy with government’s failure to timeously probe alleged nepotism and allegations of irregularities at the supply chain management unit. Kiviet’s spokeswoman Maria Hermans said the legislature remained operational.
