Sadtu queries exclusion in scam report

Teacher’s union Sadtu has criticised the exclusion of its input in a draft report exposing the buying and selling of teaching posts.

In an interview with the Daily Dispatch, Sadtu administrators in the Eastern Cape attributed a sinister motive to the exclusion.

The report, formulated by a task team led by academic Professor John Volmink, was presented to Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga following the allegations.

Sadtu provincial administrator Chris Mdingi said he told the task team investigators last year that Sadtu had no knowledge of buying and selling jobs in the Eastern Cape.

Contacted for comment yesterday, Volmink said there was nothing sinister about excluding Sadtu’s input in the report. He said the union’s response could not be located at the time of compiling the draft report.

Volmink said the draft report was not intended to be sent to other people; it was meant for Motshekga.

He said Sadtu’s input would be included in the final report.
