The petrol price will rise between eight and eleven cents a litre on Wednesday‚ the Energy Department announced yesterday. Diesel will cost between 41 and 42 cents more for a litre.
The wholesale price of illuminating paraffin will go up 43c/litre while the retail price for gas will rise by 12 cents per kilogramme‚ the department said.
A higher oil price and a slight increase in the prices of petroleum products in international markets were the main reasons behind the fuel price increases. The increase in fuel prices was limited by a firmer rand over the period.
The department urged motorists and the public to “use fuel efficiently during these tough economic times”.
