An exciting conclusion is on the cards in the B Division of the University Sport South Africa Rugby Week when Wits University and the University of the Western Cape (UWC) go head-to-head in what should be a cracking final at Old Selbornians today.

Wits and UWC have been the standout performers in the division, with both claiming two crushing wins each to ease into the final where things should be a lot closer as clearly the two strongest sides battle for the title.

Wits hammered Walter Sisulu University B team 71-0 in their opening match and followed it up with a 43-10 thumping of Varsity College, while UWC cruised to a 39-17 win over the University of Fort Hare and then crushed North West University (NWU) Vaal 35-3, as both sides convincingly made the final.

With neither having really been challenged so far it will thus be a very interesting final to see which of them will manage the tougher opposition and emerge victorious in the end.

For local side Fort Hare they will be fighting it out in the fifth-sixth place playoff against fellow Varsity Shield side Tshwane University of Technology (TUT).

It should be a great match between the two rivals as they are often very competitive in the Varsity Shield and with both teams wanting to end their week well.

Fort Hare enjoyed a solid bounce back from their first match defeat as they trounced the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) 22-3 and will be looking to sign off with a bang.

“The combinations looked to be finally clicking against UKZN so things are looking good for us,” said Fort Hare stand-in coach Kgobo Kgobo.

“The team is confident and they are looking forward to the final match.”

TUT however had a nervy time as they claimed a close 10-6 win over the WSU B team and will need to really up their game against Fort Hare if they want to challenge for the win.

“TUT is going to be a massive match,” said Kgobo.

“We have massive rivalry with them in the Varsity Shield, so we would like to get a big win against them.

“It is also a confidence thing for us and if we can put in a good performance and get the win it will set us up very well.”

The Fort Hare v TUT match gets under way at 10.10am on the Hudson Park high school B field.

The B Division final will be kicking off at 8.30am at Old Boys.

Other B Division clashes see NWU Vaal and Varsity College playing in the third-fourth place playoff kicking off at 11.50am on Old Selbornians B field while the WSU B team and UKZN will compete in the basement battle for seventh and eighth place starting also at 11.50am on Hudson Park’s B field.
