Celtic will not dance to Chiefs tune

WITH one hand on the elusive Absa Premiership title, Kaizer Chiefs’ intensify their challenge to end the season with a double against Bloemfontein Celtic tomorrow.

The high-riding Amakhosi take on Phunya SeleSele in what is expected to be a Nedbank Cup quarterfinal cracker at Free State Stadium. Kick- off is at 8.15pm.

But Celtic captain Thabo “Mr Cool” Nthethe has issued a stern warning to Chiefs to stop dreaming about beating them twice in less then two weeks.

Chiefs hammered the Free State outfit 3-0 in a league game at the same venue with goals from Kingston Nkhatha, Siphiwe Tshabalala and Josta Dladla.

“With the league title way out of reach for us, we have this tournament left to end the season on a high note and make it a habit of winning trophies,” said Nthethe.

“Chiefs are a big team with some excellent players who have been doing well throughout the season – they have been the most consistent team in the league.

“But there is just no way they will beat us this time round. Chiefs have finally reached the end of the road in this tournament. I must add that it will be a hell of an exciting but tough game,” said Nthethe, whose team won the Telkom Knockout Cup in December.

From the gold and black side, Nkhatha said they were on a mission to prove the league win victory was no fluke.

“We have made it clear we want to end the season by getting a double to show that Chiefs are back to their winning ways in terms of trophies.

“Thousands of our supporters will pack the stadium, so there is no way we can disappoint them.”

Chiefs defender and former Celtic player Mulomowandau Mathoho is keeping his fingers crossed to be given the green light by the medical personnel to travel with the team to Mangaung.

“I would love to be part of the game on Saturday and contribute to the success of Chiefs,” said Mathoho, who scored his first Chiefs goal in their 1-1 draw with Maritzburg United in Polokwane last week.

Mathoho has been suffering from and adductor muscle strain.

In another Nedbank Cup quarterfinal match, African Warriors take on United FC at Moruleng Stadium near Sun City on Sunday, which could go either way.

Warriors star Lynch Pule and company will have to keep a close eye on former Chiefs striker Lucky Khune to avoid being sent packing in this tournament.
