The Brave Warriors will be the opponents for Bafana Bafana in the quarterfinal of the Cosafa Cup in Zambia on Saturday after winning both of their early group games.
Mannetti played for Cape Town club Santos when they won the Absa Premier ship title under Igesund in 2002 and now gets a chance to pit his wits against his former mentor.
Namibia opened this year’s edition of the Cosafa Cup with a hard- fought 2-1 win over Mauritius in Lusaka last Saturday and on Monday afternoon twice came from behind to beat the Seychelles 4-2 to make sure of top place in Group A.
Mannetti’s squad is at almost full strength, including several South African-based players, and will prove a handful for the inexperienced Ba fana side that Igesund has managed to assemble.
Namibia have called up five play ers from South African clubs: Ma ritzburg United reserve goalkeeper Virgil Vries; goalkeeper Ephraim Tji honge, who plays for National First Division side Milano United; Ama Zulu defender Willem Mwedihanga; midfielder Petrus Shitembi from Pre toria University and new Usuthu striker Siadney UriKhob, who netted a wonder goal in Lusaka on Monday against the Seychelles from the most acute of angles.
Mannetti has been coaching at club level in Namibia and with the country’s U20 and U23 teams since he hung up his bootsfinished his playing days at Umtata Nush Bucks.
He won the Namibia FA Cup in his first season as a coach, finished run ner-up in the league and soon after moved onto take charge of Namibia’s biggest club, Black Africa.
One player, who will love to be in the mix for this clash is South Afri ca’s Free State Stars’ star Luyolo No mandela, who was left out of the Bafana squad due to an ankle injury – but he is not giving up on making the grade in the future.
