D-day for Selborne

EASTERN Cape school heavyweights are set to collide as St Andrews College and Selborne gear up for battle in their annual derby day clash in Grahamstown.

Selborne have had a strong start to the season, but unfortunately come into the match having been comprehensively outplayed by Grey College in Bloemfontein last weekend.

The team will be looking to bounce back emphatically against their strong rivals and will be looking to put in a top performance.

Selborne have only suffered two losses and one draw, against 10 wins this season, and will want to get back to winning ways.

Selborne have enjoyed powerful wins over Stirling, 85-0, Pearson 55-10, Queens 58-11 and had an exciting 18-all draw with top rugby school Monument as their standout performances this season.

St Andrews had a good start to the season, losing three matches and winning 10, and come into the match off the back of a good 24-6 victory over Cambridge High School.

Last year the two powerhouses were involved in an extremely exciting match in which neither could be separated as the score finished 17-all and this year should throw up even more excitement.

“The season has been good so far,” said Selborne coach Kevin Taylor.

“It has been a team effort so everyone has been doing his job well.”

Adding some spice to the match is that current St Andrews coach Allan Miles is an Old Selbornian and ex-first XV player and he is sure to feel plenty of mixed emotions during the match.

St Andrews has two first team coaches, the other being Gerry Posthumus.

The match kicks off at 2.30pm.
