Chippa hope break will do no harm

Chippa United are hoping the two-week Premier Soccer League break will not affect the team’s momentum when they return for the away clash against Bloemfontein Celtic next weekend.

The Chilli Boys are currently in second position on the log with 17 points from 10 games, and trailing leaders Kaizer Chiefs by 11 points.

United’s marketing and communications manager Putco Mafani described the two-week hiatus in the league programme because of the international fixtures as a tricky interval for the teams.

“The coaches don’t like breaks because they’ve got to keep players match fit. But I do think that there are positives and there are negatives about the break.

“The positive is obviously the fact that the pressure drops a little bit in terms of the expectations and Chippa United is number two just behind Kaizer Chiefs. With our new motto of taking one game at the time we are presented with enough time to thoroughly plan and prepare for our next game.

“Our focus is the next game against Celtic and our advantage during this break is that we are able to do enough homework on our next opposition and the coach is able to do training matches with the reserve side,” Mafani said. He said the team hoped that the positive side of the break will work perfectly well for the team.

Mafani added that the spirit was very high within the team and that their aim was to finish the league inside the top eight bracket.

He said the coach would be looking to maintain the momentum during their training sessions over the break before confidently continuing with their winning streak against Celtic.
