Cloud 9 rising on SAB turbulence

The battle for the Safa-Buffalo City SA Breweries Regional League ultimate crown is getting more interesting with every game as the 2014-15 season nears the halfway point.

From what started off as a two-horse race between Parkside Sporting and Relatives FC, four more other clubs – Cloud Nine, Future Tigers, Wonderful Attackers and Shiloh – have now joined the race.

In fact, Relatives have dropped from second to fourth, making way for Cloud Nine while Tigers, who have enjoyed consistent wins of late, now occupy position three.

There is now a mere two-point gap between log summit-positioned Sporting and second-placed Cloud Nne and a loss by the former and a win by the latter in the next round of games may change the look of the table altogether.

Sporting’s downfall has been dropping easy points away from home while they have bulldozed almost every opponent in their own backyard of North End Stadium.

They did it again this past weekend at Fort Hare ground when they drew against 12th-placed Mighty Swallows, and by so doing helping Cloud Nine to close the gap.

Cloud Nine, who are blowing hot and cold, collected the maximum with a convincing 3-0 victory against relegation-threatened Mighty Taliban.

Tigers have been a revelation this year having won all six games they have played thus far since January 10.

Their winning streak continues to lift them up the log table every week and they look destined for the summit if Sporting and Cloud Nine do not get their houses in order.

Relatives have no one to blame for having played to six successive draws before coming back to their winning ways this past weekend with a sweet 3-0 victory away from home at the expense of Black Eagles.

This win keeps the Mdantsane outfit in the title race as they now trail log-leaders by four points.

Shiloh, at position six with 20 points have played the least games in the league – 10 – while the other teams have played mostly 14 and 13 matches.

They cannot however count on games in hand as this does not always work in your favour.

No victories are guaranteed in this highly competitive and unpredictable SAB League.

At the basement, the less said about Amania Sporting and Mighty Taliban the better.
