New Border cricket captain Jerry Nqolo leads Border for the first time today as the side kicks off their T20 Africa Cup campaign.

Nqolo has come through the Border system, representing them at age group levels, before making it into the senior team, which he has represented 94 times, in 38 first-class matches, 35 ODI's and 21 T20s.

Nqolo was vice-captain to former Border captain Abongile Sodumo and is excited to finally get his reign under way.

“It's a privilege and honour to be selected to lead a great team like Border,” Nqolo said.

“I'm humbled by the opportunity and excited for the new season and looking forward to the challenges and fun times that we will have as a team.”

Border have enjoyed a short, yet good pre-season, welcoming a few new recruits and seeing the return of all their star senior players.

The team enjoyed a team-building session earlier this week and that would have helped the players to bond and be ready for their first campaign of the season.

“The preparations have been quite good; we worked hard with the guys that were around,” Nqolo said.

“We only got a chance to meet as a full squad last week and it’s been great having all the guys back together as a team.”

“We’ve also got some new faces; I think we've got a good package and a great bunch off guys.”

“They are talented guys who have been hungry to play at this level and I am looking forward to working with them,” he added.

Border has a strong team that will be taking on some of the country’s best in this weekend’s Africa T20 Cup and will be looking for a good start to the season.

With only the top team in Border's group, featuring Boland, KwaZulu-Natal Inland and North West going through to the semifinals, it is going to be an exciting weekend of cricket and a great baptism of fire for the new captain.

It is also a fantastic stage for these players to show what they’ve got, with a number of the team having never played in a televised match before and with two of Border’s games going out live on SuperSport.

“I think the Africa Cup is a great opportunity for all of us to showcase our talents and play against some of our international and quality franchise players,” Nqolo said.

“I'm looking forward to playing against very strong opposition and we are looking forward to doing well as a team in the tournament.”

“I definitely think we can qualify for the semis because we have a well- balanced team to take on any opposition that we will meet. We just need to implement our skills and what we've been working on,” he added.
