The Puma Run-a-Mile Series hit East London this weekend and will be the first in the series with Durban and Johannesburg to follow.
The East London event has had to make a late move from Beacon Bay to Bunkers Hill.
The reason for the move is that the parking lot on the eastern side of Spargs Super Spar where the event was due to take place has been dug up in the last week to create a new entrance to the centre. As it happens excavation is taking place flat bang in the middle of the route.
The new venue will in fact be much more aesthetically pleasing and BCMM Traffic have been as helpful as they indeed always are. Thus the Mile events will now take place from KatLeisurePark, home of Border Hockey and now also Born 2 Run who are the race hosts.
The course will now be made up of two 800m loops within the suburb of Bunkers Hill.
The R15000 prize-money will be shared across races in the junior, senior, veteran, masters and grandmasters categories, while there is also a 4x400m relay. The top male and female seniors stand to win R1000, R500 and R300 rand while all other categories stand to win R500, R300 and R200.
For all the jokers out there a backwards mile is on offer. This event carries no prize-money but it does promise a good few laughs along the way.
2014 saw every serious and not so serious runner who has some chutzpah turn out and Saturday afternoon should be no different.
For all the Nahoon Point parkrun fraternity who cannot get to Sunrise-on-Sea, KiddsBeach or Stutterheim, the mile should be a great outing where they can all catch up.

They can also be found at Cycle HQ or at the clubhouse today at 5.30pm and again on Saturday at the start from noon.
The weather is looking to produce clear skies with a fresh wind, though the course is fairly well protected.
Meanwhile, Gonubie Harriers have moved their Coastal Challenge from Sunday to Saturday morning and runners can look forward to running along the ocean side from BonzaBay to Gonubie.
With serious running overfor the year, this event will offer a social outing.
