Coach wrangling still dogs Chippa

Chippa United coach Roger Sikhakhane’s future remains uncertain following a “suspension” from the Bay club last month.

It has been two weeks since the KwaZulu-Natal-born coach was placed on “special leave” by Chippa management due to misconduct.

Sikhakhane is accused of smelling of alcohol on the sidelines at the inaugural Nelson Mandela Commemoration Cup against Mthatha Bucks early this month.

The Chilli Boys named Dan Malesela as the club’s interim coach and promoted defender Mbuyiselo Sambu to be his assistant.

Chairman Siviwe Mpengesi said the club was trying to deal with the matter in a cordial manner. “The processes are still under way. He was meant to submit his report about the allegations which he did not do. We are still trying to see how we can resolve this amicably.”

When asked if there was a possibility of seeing Sikhakhane return to the team this season, Mpengesi gave very little away: “It is no longer in my hands. There is a committee busy working on the matter.”

Meanwhile, former Chippa coach Ernest Middendorp lost his case against Chippa United last week at the CCMA.

Middendorp, who is now with Free State Stars, was suspended by the Bay side last season due to a poor series of results and was later fired.

Mpengesi said he was delighted with the outcome of the case.

“We were very happy because instead of going to the PSL he (Middendorp) used the Fifa accredited avenue for a legal dispute.

“He did the same thing with Golden Arrows where he went to Fifa undermining our authorities here. He (Middendorp) lost the case at the CCMA and now he must face the music with PSL.

“I know PSL have a problem with him because we are not allowed as football people to go to courts and CCMA. The contract we sign as clubs clearly says we must go to the PSL when dealing with such issues.”
