National First Division side Mthatha Bucks are on a good run following their second successive league win at the expense of Santos.

Bucks win was also their third consecutive victory in all competitions.

Head coach Velile Dyaloyi said there was faith in the team that 2016 would be their year of turning the corner.

The victory lifted Bucks up from last to 15th place on 10 points from 14 outings; the first time they had moved from the basement since the start of the season.

Dyaloyi said commitment and sacrifice by the entire team for agreeing to be back at camp just after Christmas came in handy to the 2-1 away victory in Cape Town where it is not easy for any team to come back with three points.

Although moving a single place up in the log standings was a much needed breather for Bucks, “Veza” as Dyaloyi is affectionately known in soccer circles emphasised that it was of importance that they keep their head on the ground.

Amathol’amnyama now have a chance of moving up to 14th place as soon as Sunday if they beat troubled African Warriors who they will be hosting at the Mthatha Stadium.

But that will depend heavily on how Moroka Swallows play down in Cape Town against Milano United on the same day.

The Dube Birds who have been sinking gradually are one point ahead of Bucks from 14 matches.

Dyaloyi who joined the Mthatha outfit in November, replacing Julius Dube has praised his charges for hard work and sheer commitment to his vision of taking the club out of the doldrums.

“There is nothing special about our good run, it is all about hard work by everyone in the team and the sacrifice we made by cutting short our Christmas break,” he said.

“We started this year with positive mentality and faith that it can be our year to turn the corner and so far so good but there is a lot of hard work to be done for us to move away from the relegation zone.”

Upon Dyaloyi’s arrival in Mthatha, Bucks looked like a hopeless case and bound for relegation after they had failed to register a single win in 11 matches.

He had a rocky start, suffering a 3-1 defeat away to Mbombela United.

Dyaloyi then led Bucks to a 1-0 victory in a friendly against PSL side - Chippa United before a convincing 2-0 thumping of Cape Town All Stars in a Nedbank qualifier.

Under Dyaloyi’s stewardship, Bucks would close 2015 with their first league triumph against Moroka Swallows before their gutsy 2-1 victory over Santos.

But Dyaloyi refused to take the glory, saying the positive results were due to team effort.

“The players are really enjoying the playing method we are using and what is important for me is to continue giving them feedback as a team and sitting them down on one-on-one basis about their performance.”
