Malesela’s chipper after Chippa win three on the trot

Chippa United consolidated their position in the PSL top six after clinching a third consecutive win‚ beating Free State Stars 2-0 at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday.

Satisfied coach Dan “Dance” Malesela says another myth has been dispelled as winning three games in a row is a first for the Port Elizabeth-based club this season.

A late first-half goal from Xola Mlambo and a great finish by Nkosinathi Mthiyane in the 71st minute saw the Chilli Boys take the much-needed three points.

Malesela said he was happy with the team’s performance against Ea Lla Koto and now is looking at stretching their winning spree to five matches in-a-row.

“Somebody said when you win and you win well it becomes a habit and I want it to become a habit. I want it to become second nature and it must not only be with the players but everybody at the club must be working hard to see that this team achieves more than it is thought it can achieve‚” he said.

“We need to do that and if it starts with the players‚ it’s good and we must continue. Maybe we must look at (winning) five (games) because we have two close to each other next week.”

The former Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates defender said he never dismissed the thought of Stars coming back into the game.

“You don’t close that door because any team can come back any time. It only takes one mistake‚” said Malesela.

“I don’t like to term loss of concentration because then I am talking in general. If we don’t go to challenge the ball‚ if we don’t pick up people‚ if we don’t mark the right way we might concede a goal.

“I was very conscious about the fact that even when we are in possession of the ball we should be looking okay at the back‚ we must be in shape. It’s getting better‚ two clean sheets that’s good.”

When asked to comment on the below par performance of Chippa’s international striker Aristide Bance‚ Malesela defended the striker saying it happens to every player.

“I’ll tell you something good about Bance. I know his limitations and there are a lot of them. His presence is what helps.

“He takes the attention‚ now this team (Stars) came here they played with three central defenders. He could be the reason why they played with the three central defenders. What that did was help unlock (Joseph) Molangoane and it helped unlock Mthiyane. So‚ Bance’s presence irrespective of whether he is performing well or not helps a lot.”

In the bigger picture‚ two goals and a clean sheet have given the Chilli Boys reason for cheer.

After receiving a cross which from Rhulani Manzini ‚ Mthiyane easily slotted the second goal.

The Chilli Boys could have won the game by a bigger margin but missed many scoring opportunities of which most were denied by Stars goalkeeper Daouda Diakite in the second half. – Tiso Black Star Group Digital
