The always brash boxer, Phillip “Time Bomb” Ndou, would not get involved in trash talk ahead of his clash for the vacant IBF Continental Africa welterweight title at Kibler Park Recreation Centre on Friday night.

Instead, the one-time breathtaking fast-and-furious boxer from Thoho yandou, who thrilled fans with his crippling power that left 34 of 37 victims gasping for air, showed a high degree of maturity when he spoke about his foe Ntuthuko Memela.

“I first want to thank God, the Almighty – and my promoter as well as my team for making this happen,” the 38-year- old former SA, WBA Intercontinental featherweight, WBC International and WBU junior-lightweight titlist.

“I cannot afford to take Ntuthuko for granted at all, but having seen it all, done it all and won big prizes, there will be one winner and that is me.

“I am fortunate to have seen Ntuthuko’s fights and that made it easy for me to prepare.

“He is a very strong fighter. I re spect him for raising his hand and saying ‘I am here’ when my promoter wanted an opponent for me,” he ex plained.

Ndou is the likeable boxer whose poor health put a temporary five-year stop to his career after his loss to Isaac Hlatshwayo in 2004.

Ndou, who had been moulded into a feared fighter by respected trainer Nick Durandt, made a positive come back, winning a fight in France in 2009 before losing to legendary Lovemore Ndou for the IBO belt.

But Phillip has chalked up five straight wins since that defeat against the Australia-based former IBF hold er.

“The Time Bomb is ready to ex plode,” he warned.

Moyo, who operates under the ban ner of Skylon Boxing Promotion, said preparations for his maiden tourney in Gauteng had gone well despite that she was forced to do away with the female bout between Esther Mashiya and Rita Mrwebi.

“I was advised by trainer George Khosi that he cannot get hold of his boxer and I tried to locate her myself to no avail,” said Moyo, who is based in the Free State.

“Generally all is well and I am excited and looking forward to the big day.

“Phillip and Ntuthuko have done all their medicals and everything is okay.

“I was warned by people from KwaZulu Natal that Ntuthuko is coming here for nothing but victory.

“On the other hand Phillip is raring to go.”

Moyo concluded by saying: “When you put a bomb, you set the time for it to explode … tick, tick, tick.”
